Idea Development of the Trust

We assembled to create a biodiversity working group with the people of very simple ideas and thoughts for materializing biodiversity benefits and services to the human society. Involvement of large number of people’s ideas worldwide is attempted to accommodate in human dynamism on biodiversity and biodiversity conservation. The innovative idea for materializing the attempt was initiated by a group of researchers under the academic leadership of Professor M. A. Bashar. In fact Prof. Bashar brought the idea of biodiversity conservation to the group of workers in the research field. He created a research laboratory in the department of Zoology of the University of Dhaka named as “Environmental Biology & Biodiversity Laboratory–EBBL” for training up the graduate students and fellows in the field of biodiversity conservation and bio-resources management. BCTF creation is the consequence of the dynamic researches of his laboratory, the EBBL. Prof. Bashar produced ideas of the biodiversity conservation in front of the researchers of his laboratory in 1990. Several researchers in the line of biodiversity conservation obtained their higher degree (M.Phil, PhD) under his direct supervision. The degree awarded researchers and the present biodiversity workers in the laboratory are working very dedicatedly in the field under his direction. They accumulated their results in cumulative form to make a powerful working group. This working group promised to bring the results to the general mass. They assembled on moral stand point to serve the society at any cost by practicing their research achievements. The EBBL has established an Open Butterfly Research Park in the Bhawal National Park at Gazipur about 55km away from Dhaka City centre point. The Research Park has been established on 10 acres of land area. More than 100 butterfly species are colonized in this Open Park area. These achievements of EBBL researchers encouraged them to go far with a determination for further progress in the line. This determination in the working group of Prof. Bashar brought them to form an organization under his leadership. Then it appeared as the Biodiversity Conservation Trust Foundation (BCTF). The BCTF believes that in the present world if any organization attempts to provide services to the society in the framed way it must have to go through the conservation of biodiversity by acquiring knowledge on biodiversity and by valuing the biodiversity. The BCTF is established with the aim and objectives to materialize the hypothesis of conservation and valuation of biodiversity.
